To disable the feature to Open tab in Groups, please do the following:

Go to chrome://flags and find "Tab Groups Continuation" in the list

Set to Disabled
Once disabled, it will no longer create tabs in groups.
Important
It will still say to "Open tab in new group", however, when you long press on a link, it won't actually create a new group.
